Jewelled Crop Top

I am absolutely in love with the jewelled shirt this season. You can buy shirts with a jewelled collar, or jewels all over such as the one I am wearing in this post.  This cropped shirt goes perfect with these J.Brand high waisted Maria jeans.

Weekend Kindergarten Review

Here is the Kindergarten week in review. We read the Leveled Literacy Intervention book Rex. The SK's loved it, here they are reading the book to a partner, and then the students switched roles.

We continued to work on our tactile alphabet this week. We still have about 8 letters to complete, we are using cotton balls for 'C' , noodles for 'N', and yarn for 'Y'.

Our letter of the week was 'C', some of our students drew pictures of cats on our white board easel this week. I was very impressed.

Our tactile alphabet is taking shape. See the picture below for a closer shot.

Since our letter was 'C' this week, I thought it would be fun to build with crackers! We didn't give the students many instructions other than to create whatever they wanted. This was very interesting to see what they created, if you want to try this in your classroom have a lot of white glue ready, the crackers need a lot to stick together.

I love that this child created the letter A.

This child tried to make a cracker bridge, clever!

My partner LeeAnn has a Yoga ABC book, she introduced the airplane move to our students. They loved Yoga! Make sure you have ample space for your students, our classroom is on the small side to we had to spread out.

Our Read Aloud this week was Pete the Cat- Rocking in My School Shoes! This story also has a song that the students can sing along to as you read. This is our version of Pete the Cat in the letter C, LeeAnn plans the best creatives for our students I haven't seen the creative area that busy all year.

LeeAnn showed our Number Board on a Facebook group a few days ago and it garnered a lot of attention. This is the beginning of our number board, there are pictures of the students finger,s as well as, student created numerals and number words. We added the ten frame, number line and 1cm snap cubes before posting the numbers.

On Food Friday we brought in carrots or cucumbers. This is a graph of what the students brought in. They love to look at the food and share what they brought.

Here are white, orange, and purple carrots. We sampled the white and purple carrots at the end of the day. We were so proud the students tried each carrot. Personally, the white one tasted the best!

One thing that is always hard to find is a toy  cash register. I picked this one up at the Superstore, so if you are close to a Superstore or Loblaws this was $19. I love how updated it it, and the students are so excited about it. We had a full table exploring and learning the new cash register.

My students are always surprising me with what they can do with the building blocks. We had about six students working together to create this body shape. The others students enjoyed lying down in the previous student's shape and then trying to rearrange the blocks to fit the new body shape.

This was such a great week! Next week we are doing some Dinosaur exploring! Stay tuned, and thanks so much for reading!

A Bit Parisian

Black and white always makes a statement, this Parisian inspired look is so much fun, when I wear this skirt to work the students just love it! I secretly hope I am inspiring the future fashionistas. This outfit was planned without a hat but due to the wind I decide to put it on at the last second. WOW! Does it ever take this outfit to a different level? These are some of my favourite pictures yet. Enjoy! Click through to shop this look.

Kindergarten Sunday!

Welcome to Kindergarten Sunday here is what happened this week!

We asked our parents to bring in 'beautiful junk' items and we had the students in pairs try to find  A's and B's on boxes of products they recognized.

We read Pete the Cat this week, we sang the four groovy button song all week. What a fun story, and great for learning counting backward from four. I am heading out today to get a few more of these stories as the children were asking for another Pete the Cat book.

We are working on the letter B this week. We looked at this message closely to count how many b's we saw, and to see if any words rhymed.(the students came out with the word ryhme, I was thrilled)

We created some  mini sand boxes for students to practice letter formation. It wasn't overly popular but we will encourage students to try again.

We began to make out tactile alphabet. Using each child's first initial we asked them to bring in items that began with the same letter. Here you can see jelly beans, suckers, and tissue paper. We will finish the rest of the letters this week, and then display them in the classroom.

Our bumble B's were a HUGE success!

In our guided reading groups one day we practice writing a short sentence that matches the text we are reading. This week's book was all based on repetitive text, most of our students (SK's) could print their sentence that they said to me and I wrote on paper for them.

We tried to use the 10 frames in Math this week to show simple numbers. This was a struggle for most so we are going back to basics in Math!

We did a banana and blueberry exploration for Food Friday's this week. The students' were interested in why bananas change colour, and why some had more brown areas than others.

Ladylike Leather with La Belle Sirene

I have teamed up this week with La Belle Sirene to show one of this season's biggest trends, leather! Leather is everywhere this season whether it is a jacket, circle skirt, or just done in small details. I admit I am not a huge fan of leather, I never really feel myself in it. This dress I have had for a few years, I remember I tried it on about 8 months after having my son, and it was one of the first times I felt like my 'right' size. I purchased it and have not wore it much. The faux leather panel on the front of the dress it just enough leather detail for me, and the mini chiffon skirt really gives it a feminine touch.
If you have not seen Courtney's La Belle Sirene blog please check out her website. She has great fashion sense and it has been so much fun collaborating with her.

Black and White Peplum

The blog is going black and white this week! I love black and white for all seasons, it is always a classic colour combination. This is a black and white peplum top that is lovely, and ever so slimming on. The skinny jeans are from Old Navy and are my absolute favourite, the jeans are the Mid-Rise Rock Star style, and the stretch and rise makes these jeans a wardrobe staple.
